Coconut Oil and Cholestorol

Another common question I get asked is with regard to coconut oil and cholesterol.

My personal understanding is that…..

  • It IS high in saturated fat, BUT all saturated fat is not equal. Coconut oil has been shown to increase levels of ‘good cholesterol’ improving the HDL/LDL ratio (this is a good thing).
  • It’s high smoke point makes it ideal for cooking with, as it remains stable at high temperatures and retains all it’s health-giving properties. (Other ‘healthy’ oils can produce trans-fats and other toxic substances when heated to high temperatures.)
  • It can help boost your metabolism and improve thyroid function.
  • It’s great for your skin.

As with Soy, if you google Coconut Oil and Cholestorol you can find lots of articles with all the information you need to make your own informed decision. Nutritional Responsibility is all about making conscious, informed choices, right?
